Dr. Traynor, 1990 National Physique Committee (NPC) competition (Stockton, CA).
About the Founder
Patrick Traynor, PHD, MPH, RD, CPT
Dr. Patrick Traynor was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. His late father, Joe Traynor, a disruptor in apiculture (agricultural use of bees) influenced his major in entomology as a double with nutrition from UC Davis. Traynor attributes his rich agricultural experiences to his dad. These include integrated pest management, soil samples, bee pollination, queen bee rearing, and honey production. Traynor experienced first hand how a growing population must be fed. However, as fascinating and important agriculture is, another facet of his interest in nutrition was his intense desire to manage his own body composition.
As an overweight child, Traynor experienced unforgettable teasing and verbal bullying. Unrepeatable names were seared into his memory forever. This drove his determination to escape. He frequently pondered those Charles Atlas comic book ads that portrayed a Bluto like bully kicking sand in a young man's face humiliating him before his date. The young man then worked hard and eventually avenged himself.
Similarly, Traynor was determined conquer the bastardized "food" items that stripped him of, mocked, and bullied his natural ability to thrive. Eventually, he passed his orignal goal - to remove body issues and simply blend in. While complete satisfaction may not be possible, Traynor has gained much more from nutrition than expected.
He now feels compelled to stop the needless bullying of helpless and countless victims of our food system.
Initial Journey
Patrick Traynor, PHD, MPH, RD, CPT
After his undergraduate work, his nutrition interests only intensived. However, Traynor did not practice dietetics professionally immediately. He became a high school science teacher and then went through the administrative tiers as assistant principal, principal, director, assistant superintendent, director of state assessment, and eventually served out his last 10 years as district and county superintendent in the pre-K-12 California school system.
During these years he continued his education and earned his registered dietitian license through Iowa State Univiersity, his master of public health, nutrition, through UC Berkeley, and his doctor of philosophy from UC Riverside. During his education career, Traynor has also been a biology professor at Brandman University, a statistics and assessment professor at Argosy University, and adjunct faculty in education at UC Riverside.
Traynor now feels so fortunate to have entered the dietetics field for strictly fitness reasons only to later learn it is arguably the most important field in medicine! Eager to employ his comprehensive science background, he strives to impart clear, evidence based approaches, so people can acheive a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease, fully embracing the World Health Organization's (WHO's) definitiion of health. As a dietitian and educator, Traynor strongly believes that access to optimal health and education should be an inalienable right. In this light, he and his staff review every client's health insurance plan to be sure services are charged in a manner consistent with the principles and practices of the Affordable Care Act. The intention is to provide everyone free access to MNT Scientific's evidence based nutrition care. Whenver possible, which most often it is, the client pays zero out of pocket costs with no copay and no charge to the deductible.

The Most Important Field in Medicine
Patrick Traynor, PHD, MPH, RD, CPT
Traynor has brought his successful leadership approach from California public schools to his MNT Scientific firm so that clients get the state of the art treatment, either online or in person.
With formal education, training, and practice in leaderhip, nutrition, and education itself, Traynor is outspoken with his opinions on how best to serve the public's interest within these highly political fields. Traynor has observed food has an additional, highly emotionally charged component that requires respect and acceptance of all views. Even registered dietitians vary tremendously in their approaches.
Serving California's children on the Childhood Nutrition Advisory Council (CNAC) composed of cooks, cafeteria managers, nutrition experts, administrators, doctors, and parents, Traynor successfully navigated these emotionally diverse opinions about food and what children need, want, and would take. He is pleased to have gotten several of his views regarding ultra-processed foods into the California Health Framework to help guide teaching and learning about heath and nutrition.
